Quick and Easy Ways to Sneak in a Little Exercise.
Let's face it we are all busy and finding time to exercise is not always easy. So here are some things that you we could all do to increase our daily activity just a little bit during activities we do everyday.
1. In the Car- practice deep breathing and pulling in your abdominal muscles. See "how tall" you can become. Try putting your rear view mirror a 1/4 inch higher and this will force you to sit up straight or practice resting your head against the headrest. I associate stoplights and stop signs with pulling my abs in and correcting my posture.
2. Brushing your teeth- Stand on one foot to improve your balance. If standing on foot is easy try closing your eyes. Do lunges or squats. BONUS: You might even brush your teeth longer.
3. Watching TV- Skip DVR. Get up on commercials and move, do household chores, squats, lunges, planks, push ups, etc..Walk on the treadmill and on the commercials run instead of walk.
4. Sitting at your desk- How about sitting on an exercise ball instead of an office chair. If the exercise ball is to big try an Exerdisc, this is a small round cushion that will sit right in your chair but will force you to sit up straight and use your core muscles, it can also be used to stand on for improving balance. Contact A Better Me Fitness for information on how to purchase these items.
5. Play with your kids- Run, jump, and have fun. Have a jumping contest, play tag, squat and toss your exercise ball to each other. Here is a fun and easy game: scatter a deck of cards around a large open space, set the timer and see who can collect the most cards.
I have a ton of other ideas and am always seeking ways to "sneak" in extra activity. Contact me for more tips and don't be afraid to get creative!!
